FAQ's

What are your quilts made from?

All fabrics used for the quilt top and quilt backing are 100% cotton. The wadding (the squidgy bit in the middle) is Hobbs Polydown made from 100% polyester. It is the ultimate polyester wadding and is perfect for washing especially for quilts which may require a lot of washing like baby quilts.

You mention many of your quilts are appliqued - what is that?

Applique is the technique whereby smaller pieces of fabric are attached to a larger piece of fabric by sewing around them. This process involves drawing every piece of a scene, an animal, a princess or whatever you would like on your quilt then sticking them down to the main background of the quilt and sewing around them using a zig-zag or straight stitch. It is intricate and time-consuming but the results are fantastic.

How long does it take for you to make a quilt?

This really does depend on the complexity of the design. A simple personalised patchwork quilt for a baby would take approximately 3 weeks. A more complicated design involving applique may take 4-6 weeks.

How do I decide on the choice of fabric?

This is where the creative process really comes into its own. Often my clients get to unlock their creativity and they get hooked on fabric! Once we have discussed the design you are looking for I will source various fabrics for you to look at. This is generally done via email although I do send samples of unusual textures and designs to see if they are the right fit.

What are the sizes of the quilts you make?

Littler Quilts specialises in quilts for babies and young children. These sizes are below but please remember there are no right or wrong sizes. If you would like a baby quilt, for example, larger than below - no problem!

Baby Quilt - 75cm wide by 100cm long

Crib Quilt - 100cm wide by 120cm long

Toddler Quilt - 100cm wide by 150cm long

Single Bed - 135cm wide by 200cm long

What is the cost of a custom made, personalised quilt?

Again the cost of a quilt made to your specifications depends on the complexity of the design. I work with clients budget - large or small to make sure you get the quilt you want. Do not be worried by a small budget!

How do you keep me appraised of your progress in making my quilt?

I take regular photos of my progress and keep in contact with you whether by phone or email. I communicate every step of the way especially when important decisions are to be made such as the colour of the backing fabric, any particular detail you would like to see on the quilt.

Do you take a deposit?

As a general rule, I do not take deposits however I do retain the right to ask for one before moving on to the construction process.

When will full payment be due?

I ask for full payment including Guaranteed Next Day postage costs before the quilt is sent out. Payment can be made via PayPal or BACS. I will not ask for payment until you are happy with the quilt as seen in the photos I send you.

Can I return a custom made, personalised quilt?

Custom designed and made quilts whether personalised or not cannot be returned unless there is something materially wrong with the quilt. You can get more information regarding returns on my Order Information Page.
